TaylorMade R11S Driver specs

Taylormade in 2012 is all about tuning and speed.  Improved aerodynamics, hotter faces, improved ball speed.  

The flagship of TMAG (Taylormade Adidas Golf) is the R11 line.  The R11 was the most successful launch in the modern golf era.  The new R11s Driver and fairway metals is a step up from it's predecessor, which from all the tour success, (Luke Donald, Darren Clarke) and record sales is a pretty difficult feat.

TMAG is very much the leader is custom driver and woods fitting, evident by the new R11S with it's added adjustability, innovative crown design and improved aerodynamics.

At 460cc, the R11S is similar to the original R11, the new TaylorMade R11S Driver specs features a flat-white crown color and black PVD face to improve alignment and accuracy off the tee. TMAG says the white crown color makes it appear even larger (2%) and adds an advantage given that TaylorMade testing indicates that the majority of golfers gain confidence at address from a head that appears large relative to the ball.

The TaylorMade R11 Driver hit the shelves early last month and it is the latest and greatest from the makers of the number one driver in golf. There are three major differences from last years R9 series; the white non-glare club head,  Adjustable Sole Plate (ASP) technology and a smaller 440cc head. With the new ASP technology, TaylorMade has made another step towards a completely adjustable driver.

The TaylorMade R11S Driver  has been redesigned, tweaked, and improved in order to become TaylorMade's most advanced offering to date. The new 460cc matte-white finish is powered by an updated 5-sided Adjustable Sole Plate, new Flight Control Technology, and Movable Weight Technology, ensuring more distance and accuracy with every driver. The new R11S is bigger, faster, and more tunable. So you'll be longer.
While last season's R11 had a red adjustable plate on the sole that allowed golfers to choose from three face angles, the R11S has five settings: Neutral, Open, Closed, Slightly Open (Open+), and Slightly (Closed+).

The adjustable sleeve that connects the shaft to the head can be set in a Neutral, Higher or Lower setting. The Higher setting adds 1.5° of loft (transforming a 9° driver into a 10.5° driver) while the Lower setting decreases loft by 1.5°.

"In many cases a golfer may not be able to see that much of a difference with the smaller sleeve [used on the R11], but the larger sleeve is going to give them the ability to dial in that launch condition to be exact without changing the spin rate," says Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade's senior director of product creation.

There are also two weight ports in the R11S—one in the heel and one in the toe—which can hold the one- and the 10-gram weights that come with the driver. Positioning the 10-gram weight in the heel encourages a draw while screwing it into the toe should help you hit a fade.

There are 80 different ways you can set up the R11S, and according to TaylorMade, the club offers 140 yards of left-and-right adjustability.

"All in all, the package is going to give the golfer a little higher launch and less spin than the original R11, which should translate to more distance," says Olsavsky.
